  • I believe public speaking is a very important piece to exposing your brand. In other words, if you are able to speak well and deliver a good message to the public, it sets you and your brand apart from all the rest. Barack Obama, Oprah, and all of the talented people who were featured in "The Secret" mastered speaking in public and it has helped them become very successful in their careers and in motivational speaking.

  • Public Speaking. Yikes!
    I am working on it.
Question is… How do I practise the art when I am uncomfortable doing it?

As always, Thanks for the vid Evan! ^_^

    • WolfRhymes Garcia … Thanks for sharing. I am a bit introverted. At work, I constantly deal with the general public. It is a bit out of my element. Taking an acting class? I have not thought of that. How was your experience in the first week or so of class? I'll search for some local classes… perhaps for winter session. ^_^

Is that how you started developing your public speaking?

    • Good morning Evan Carmichael from Paulette Motzko. Very good point. I was in marketing years ago and got very used to walking up to people and selling them something I believed in. If you I truly believe in what you're talking about then it becomes very easy to communicate it to large groups of people when you have a passion behind your words. Get very used to making eye contact with people and then plug your headset and do voice to voice and face to face interpersonal communication and get off the computer. I always do balance I have lots of hours where I do web content projects for companies but then again I've got to have my people time where I get out of the house and out of my office or whatever the situation is and go talk to people because before computers there were people and the world will always be full of them and that's what makes the world turn or extraordinary people. You can be one of them that is memorable by saying something in a different way that no one's ever said.

  • Public speaking is, indeed, a useful skill. As you have expressed on numerous occasions, the more you practice the more skillful you become.
What about "public writing"? Many times, as a leader, you must communicate with the written word. When communicating via the written word, it is common for the writer to express a thought with the same words that they would use conversationally. DO YOU "SEE" WHAT I'M SAYIN'?
When you look at the "comments section" of the many channels on YouTube, for example, there is tremendous ambiguity or just plain confusion in the thoughts that are attempting to be expressed. (Not by your audience, of course.) Given the venue, that is acceptable but not preferred.
Unfortunately, I see the same characteristics of poor written communication in the workplace, as well. The effective communicator proof reads every communication. In fact, it is a good practice to have a colleague proof read a communique before it is distributed. This will help to ensure that the thought to be "communicated" and/or the direction that is given, is clearly stated. Just a thought…

  • I love public speaking, but I needed to practice a lot to reach the point I am today… My YouTube Channel helps me a lot, because I feel comfortable in my own environment to practice and get better (I always imagine that the camera is a lot of people), so, when I am with the public, looks like I am talking to the camera ??

  • Think with public speaking you need lot confidence to do it.
But once you start speaking in public example doing a presentation, you naturally forget being nervous.

  • Really enjoy public speaking. Witnessing it and engaging in it. Wasn't always that way. Growing up, thought it was a waste of time but it grew on me. I believe the transfer of energy from speaker to listener and when it's reciprocated is phenomenal. Can't say I agree with Ms. Sandberg around your 5:20 mark or so. Many things can be accurate or true from several different points but we're kidding ourselves if we think that's true across the board. I may lose some here, but from my experience in life as a whole, everything is not relative. Again as always good stuff Evan. #thanksfortheentspresso ?

  • the problem i have with public speaking is that I push my spontaneous thoughts in public that can sometimes get me into trouble because i'm pushing out words out of my mouth faster than thinking about what i'm about to say. Although i have had a very unsocial life mostly, I think i will become good at public speaking because I took an acting class in college and it was an amazing experience, so i definitely want to get better at public speaking. The teacher said that my final had excellent specificity which she said is not as easy as it sounds to accomplish. I'd say there are times when i'm a good listener and half the time i state my opinions. I'm very introverted and my mental illness has caused relationships to go awry when i got sick. the fear of connecting with people is that i might mess up and lose my respect in that friendship and develop a bad reputation. It has happened in the past, and i have fear of it happening again. I guess this is why i tend to avoid people but I hunger to be on a stage which is a contradiction but I'm still trying to change for the better.

  • 5:03 – "How do you communicate authentically? How do you figure out what to say and what not to say in a way that's authentic? And what Fred says and I really believe this is true. It starts from the fundamental understanding that there is no truth. There's my truth. There's your truth. And everything is subjective. And so if you always start from the position of this is what I believe I don't expect you to believe it, I don't think you have to believe it, I'm not saying it's true, you can actually always communicate authentically because if you walk in the room and this gets worse as you get more senior. Here's the answer, you're not giving anyone else any room to say anything. And if you walk in the room and say I believe this for this reason what do you believe? If you share your truth in that language you give people room to authenticate to communicate authentically. And that is hugely important to these relationships at any stage." — Sheryl Sandberg

I guess I am fortunate because I am a relatively good Public Speaker and have had the opportunity to speak before an audience of more than 1000 people on a daily basis. I am very much interested in getting better at it though. This will be a very useful skill in helping me to achieve my vision for BestYouPRO and Z.A.B.E.R.
